Exercises Done On A Ballet Dance Bars

By Irda Kadir

The ballet bar allows beginners and novice dancers to do a variety of exercises to improve their posture and steadiness. The bar exercises come in many forms and involve foot and hand work.

As a ballet dancer, having a bar is important when you warm up and practice cardinal routines. The bars come in two varieties. Most traditional dance studios have the older wall mounted bars. These give more stability and poise when you are doing your warm ups.

The cardinal bar exercises are monotonous and extremely slow. This is however their main strength. The exercises help build strength in the dancer's feet and legs. They also help the dancers learn correct dance postures.

If you want to use a ballet bar at home, you should make sure that the height of your bar is at least up to your waist. Most portable bars have adjustable heights to suit the dancer's requirements.

The place you buy your ballet bar is also important. A good idea is to ask ballet studios about their suppliers. You can also ask novice dancers and teachers about their preferences.

Advanced dancers use the bar as partners before they actually dance with a male ballet dancer. The bar is also used to allow dancers to maintain their graceful poses and enhance them through thorough repetition.

When older dancers start doing exercises, the bar in an invaluable companion as it aids them with ankle strengthening exercises. The bar thus helps both beginners and advanced students to maintain their posture and steadiness on their feet.

Most wall mounter bars are made of metal or wood. The portable bars come in myriad colors and metals. It is wiser to choose light weight metallic bars in the portable variety. One must also pay special attention to the finish on both wall mounted and portable bars. The better its finish, the longer the life of the bar. - 31486

Bollywood is an Important Part of Indian Culture

By Sudha Kaviraj

Most people wouldn't even begin to imagine the humble origins of Bollywood. Indian cinema can be attributed to the two great ancient epics of India, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata which have provided a solid foundation for much of India's commercial cinema today which is fondly referred to as Bollywood.

Early Indian cinema took on the role of delivering a distinct moral code particularly when the Mahatma Gandhi-led national movement was at its peak. It was unsurprising that most Bollywood directors and screenplay writers were partial to the Gandhian philosophy. Many directors were passionate about making their films a vehicle for messages of social reform.

During Mahatma Gandhi's era, Indian commercial cinema reflected Mahatma's social concerns. Caste based inequalities were tackled in films like Sujata, Acchut and Haasil. Dil Ek Mandir focussed on the oppression of women in family and society. And most prominent perhaps which seems to be most relevant in Bollywood films today is the disparity between rich and poor in films like Pyaasa, Lawaaris and Jaagte Raho.

Now Bollywood is very commercial and as ever before remains an integral part of Indian culture. Just as in the West, many people like to read about the lives of A-list actors in Grazia or Heat magazines; pages brimming with celebrity diets, fitness regimes and DVDs, fans of Bollywood actors and actresses fall over themselves to emulate the lives of their screen icons whether it be their clothes, makeup, dance styles or workout regimes.

In India the trend to copy the lives of Bollywood screen idols is evidentially extreme. The Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor caused a storm when she dropped down to a size zero. Last year, her nutritionist brought out a book detailing Kareena's eating regime which led to her size zero. The foreword of the book was written by Kareena herself, endorsing her size zero diet. Suddenly women in India were obsessed with becoming the ultimate size zero. On Western catwalks the size zero is frowned upon. And it seems bizarre that Indian women once celebrated for their natural fuller figures are choosing to be more willowy and waif like in favour of their European counterparts. - 31486

Ballet Steps Using Ballet Bars

By Sarah Nabila

Ballet is a very tough dance form. A lot of practise has to be put in before one can start performing the basic steps. The most important factors in ballet are the posture and the stance of the dancers.

A typical dancer usually practises to get the correct posture and stance with the help of ballet bars. Using these bars can help beginners to a great extent as it provides a reference for the dancers.

Long screws should be used to fit the bracket on to pieces of wood that is kept on the wall. Brackets should ideally hold barres up to 6 inches in length.

There is a step that which is done with knees bend on two counts. The main important part of this step is the posture of the shoulders and the back which should be straight up.

There are several variations to this step and a beginner should know every variation. This step can be mastered using a ballet bar that can provide support to the dancers. Some ballet moves has eight counts and the knees are fully bent in this case.

Thus the usefulness of the bars are in providing support during exercises and practising the routines when not working with a male partner.

There are several other exercises that can help you develop strength in your feet and ankles. The portable ballet bars comes in handy in such cases as they can be used to for such exercises.

These are some of the important points that should be kept in mind when buying brackets as you do not want to compromise on quality if you want to make your dancing environment conducive for it. - 31486

Pilates Reformer Is An Ideal Escape At The End Of A Long Day

By Thaya Kareeson

In this rough world you need to be able to stop and take care of yourself at some point during the day. Stress is available in heavy doses from every angle. It can come from your job, your house, your family, and the list just continues on and on. By investing in a pilates reformer for your house you can be sure that there is always a way for you to retreat from the world, no matter what time of day it is.

Working in an office can be hard on the body. This may seem contradictory at first, but really your back will start to scream at you after sitting in that chair day after day. It does not take long at all for it to become old. Your posture will suffer. You begin to notice more and more how the lack of fresh air is affecting your attitude. Following a long day you will be glad to go home and have a place to relax and escape.

If you have a lengthy commute home, then the ride may not offer you much relief. Backed up traffic can mean that you sit there in the driver's seat for quite a while. This may or may not be as comfortable as your office chair. It all depends on how much you enjoy your car.

At home the daily chores await you. You kept hoping that the dishes would do themselves, but that has not happened. No one came by to rob your home and took out the trash while they were at it, either. As you take the time to put your house back in order it does feel a bit better than sitting at the desk, or behind the wheel. It is still not quite the refresher that you were wanting.

Families are great, wonderful, and loving. Family is there for you in times of need, normally. They also bring a considerable amount of stress. They compete for your attention. They unload their bad day on you, adding to your already bad day. They were taught to share, and share they do, until you really can not handle anymore of their sharing.

Without an escape from all the chaos, you may well be on a one way track for burn out. You will lose interest in your job. You will slack on your home maintenance and chores. You will seem disinterested in your family. Everything may begin to seem bland if you are not proactive in taking some time out for yourself.

Turn off your TV, it will not help you. Do not waste time checking your email, it will be waiting for you when you are done. Turn off your cell phone, nothing is so urgent that you must be found every second of the day. We are sorry if that spoils your feeling of self-importance. Get rid of your distractions for thirty minutes.

Your pilates reformer will be waiting patiently for you. The sophisticated machine will help you to unwind with several pilates poses. This is one purchase you will never regret. You can refuel and refresh yourself so that you are able to go out and deal with the world all over again tomorrow. - 31486

A Hormone Imbalance: The Reason For Many Different Health Problems

By Thaya Kareeson

A hormone imbalance is most common among women because of the way their body is designed to work. In the first part of a woman's monthly cycle the body produces estrogen, in the middle ovulation results and after ovulation the body produces progesterone in preparation to receive the egg in the event that a pregnancy occurs.

If the woman does not become pregnant, the body stops producing both hormones and she has her period. This process keeps the hormones in balance on a month by month basis. If a woman does not ovulate during the month, then the estrogen is not balanced by the progesterone, because progesterone is only produced when ovulation occurs, and an imbalance occurs.

This is a common occurrence as a woman begins to age. Ovulation slows down and the body fabricates less progesterone which causes the estrogen in the body to rise. This type of problem may begin in very young girls after they have their first period. Other times it is common is after the first child is born or after a tubal ligation. Once this problem begins, other problems begin to multiply.

The brain actually begins to swell when there is too much estrogen in the body. A woman may notice that her hands swell, her breasts are tender, she has headaches and mood swings. The thyroid begins to malfunction which stresses the adrenal glands, which, in turn, causes adrenal fatigue. All of this will create problems such as unexplained weight gain, fatigue, depression, the inability to think clearly, sleep problems and many other health problems.

The entire immune system is affected by a hormone imbalance, and in most cases, the fitness level diminishes considerably. Some women are barely able to function at all. The severe mood swings make it so that no one wants to be anywhere near them.

Interestingly, most women do not see their doctors about this problem because they do not think there is anything wrong. They think it is a problem of just being overworked from trying to care for their husband, home and children and juggle their job at the same time. They, also, have a tendency to think that all women experience the same thing.

When progesterone decreases and estrogen increases, the best way to balance them again is for the woman to use natural progesterone. If not, the symptoms she is experiencing will keep lowering her level of fitness. Once the two hormones begin to equal out, the woman will begin to feel considerably better. She will regain her strength and energy, and she will start feeling completely different.

It is normal when a woman does not notice an immediate change after she starts using a natural progesterone cream. The change usually comes slowly over a three to four month period of time. She will know when the cream is doing its job, because her symptoms will begin to disappear, and she will begin to feel good again. She won't have a problem thinking anymore, she will have a new outlook on life, people will enjoy being around her and she will want to do things again.

It is important for a woman with these symptoms to visit her doctor. Before she goes, she may want to try the natural progesterone cream. If she doesn't see a change in her symptoms after several months, she should have a complete checkup to make sure there is not another underlying problem. - 31486

How Can I Learn Ballroom Dancing?

By Kinley McFadden

The increased popularity in dance competition shows on television has created a huge interest lately in ballroom dancing. This is a good thing! It is fun and can be easy to learn. That is easy to learn ballroom dancing, not necessarily easy to master! But it is fun learning the dances and can help you get in shape too. Most community centers offer classes and there are numerous tapes and DVD's offering instruction.

Possibly the most well known dance would be the Tango. It is usually performed with a man and a woman and is known for being very sensual. Couples must really connect with the music as well as each other. The pair is often in a close embrace, mainly at the chest or hips while the man leads the woman across the floor.

For a romantic dance, select the waltz. This is usually performed in time featuring very flowing movements. Perhaps you have heard of the 'box step.' This is the fundamental step in the waltz, which basically maps out the dance. It gets its name from the fact that a 'box' is formed with the couple's feet. Picture this: The man steps forward with his left leg, then to the left then back, then to the right. This forms the box. (The woman dancer does the opposite.) This dance can be performed to faster paced music but has recently been done more slowly.

Also a romantic dance choice is the Foxtrot. A slower dance, the steps take two beats of music followed by quick steps that take one beat. From this dance we get 'Slow, slow, quick, quick.' This dance is usually done to big band music but other genres can also be the backdrop.

One of the most fun ballroom dances is the Cha-Cha. The Cha-Cha is of Latin origin and is very high energy. This dance uses five steps per four beats, which is where we get the phrase 'one, two, cha cha cha.' The main characteristic of the Cha-Cha is the many hip movements.

There are other ballroom dances: The Mamba, the Samba and the Salsa to name a few. There are several common features to these styles, but they all have certain qualities that make them all unique. Watching seasoned dancers combine several styles into one performance can be a lot of fun.

If you want to really learn ballroom dancing, watch people in action and follow-up by viewing some DVD's or video tapes at home. But really the best way to learn is by taking classes. This gives hands-on experience that you can't get from videos alone. Take your partner and head off to a class. If you don't have anyone who is interested in going with you, that's no big deal. Classes almost always have others who are going it alone and you can hook up with one of them. Enjoy! - 31486

The Story Of Genuine Belly Dancing

By Tanik Nertt

Belly dancing is a term used in the West to explain traditional Arab dance. Belly dancing is extremely an inadequate term, since all parts of the body are employed in traditional Arab dance or raqs sharqi, that is the proper terminology for the most poular style in the West. Raqs sharqi truly places additional emphasis on the hips instead of belly dancing.

Belly dancing comes in many styles of style, depending on the region and country of origin. Some designs are totally Western interpretations.

Raqs sharqi, which means Oriental dance in translation, is the kind performed in restaurants and clubs within the West. This dance is usually performed by ladies, though generally by men as well. It's an improvisational dance that is most typically performed solo.

Raqs baladi, that means that dance of country, is the people vogue of belly dancing performed at social events by men and girls in Middle Japanese countries.

The origins of belly dancing are unknown and usually fiercely debated. One theory is that it was developed by ladies to aid different women in childbirth or to demonstrate childbirth. There is no real evidence of this, but, and whereas this may justify half of the dance, it definitely would not justify all that is concerned in belly dancing.

Another theory explains that the belly dance began in Northern Africa and unfold through the Caravans to different Middle Eastern countries. There's conjointly a theory that belly dancing saw its origin in Ancient Babylon. This theory follows that previous to Islam, the ladies danced and the lads played drums at social events. When Islamic times the women were not permitted to bounce, and also the ritual fell to slave girls.

The primary recorded encounter with belly dancing was when Napoleon invaded Egypt and his troops discovered Gypsy dancers. It gained popularity within the 18th and nineteenth centuries when, during the Romantic Movement, artists used it to depict romanticized version of harem living in the Ottoman Empire. It was about now when oriental dancers began engaging at exhibits and also the World's Truthful, inflicting additional of a stir than several of the technical demonstrations.

Belly dancing extremely gained national attention at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. It's here that entertainment director Sol Bloom is credited with having concocted the phrase. There's, however, no evidence that he ever used the term and newspapers of the day were using the French terminology, danse de ventre, to describe the Oriental dancing. Nonetheless, the fact that uncorseted girls were gyrating their hips at many exhibitions of the World's Honest brought shock to some Victorian sensibilities and set the term belly dancing into the common lexicon.

Such popularity spawned tons, if not thousands, of dancers around the country to claim their acts as authentic, when most of them were improvised solos routines. The dancing became thus popular that it had been the topic of many early films by Thomas Edison. A little later, Hollywood sought to exploit the Western intrigue with the orient in films like The Sheik, Cleopatra, and Salome.

Nowadays, belly dancing is a terribly excepted and appreciated type of entertainment worldwide, although we have a tendency to can never apprehend who is doing the authentic dance and who is not. - 31486

Technics' New SL-DZ1200 Not Up To Usual Standards

By Fred Sanderson

The past thirty years have seen Technics become the undisputed leader of the turntable industry ever since its groundbreaking SL-1200 model saw the light of day. The SL-1200 has sold more units than any other turntable in history, and has remained popular enough that Technics has never released a successful followup.

All that has now changed. Technics has unveiled its SL-DZ1200 digital direct drive turntable. This, the first model of its kind to playback CD's and to be MP3 compatible, has drawn mixed reactions from professionals and amateurs alike. Vinyl is vinyl, and MP3 files can't properly imitate the sound of vinyl due to the fact that each file is encoded, which leads to natural losses in sound quality.

The question remains: is the quality loss insignificant enough that DJ's can still go out and play professionally with this model? And might it even be better to have all their songs on a memory card rather than having to haul boxes of LP's to every gig?

New Possibilities In Modern Turntable

The best part about the SL-DZ1200 is that it has many features that, when used properly, can help deliver a dynamite stage performance. CD playback and MP3 file compatibility makes sense -- if not now, then it'll be incorporated later; there's no way to avoid the change that's coming. Technics has built the SL-DZ1200 to look, feel, and sound like the original SL-1200.

DJ's can use sample banks to save loops and bring them back up whenever they want, even spin these loops at the same time, and keep them longterm for use at the next gig courtesy of an SD card. There are various cues that the DJ can use to save and recall, a reverse switch, and freewheeling capabilities. Wrap all this stuff together and you have a solid touring machine that has enough options to keep a show interesting for hours.

The Down Side

Unfortunately for Technics, there are just as many downsides to this bad boy as there are benefits. First off, there is a distressing lag time when loading CD's. I've seen complaints anywhere from eight to thirty seconds. That's a lot of dead air for a beginning DJ, but if you're a professional you can work the crowd for half a minute while you get your music in gear. Even so, if you're not prepared for it, this can cause some headaches.

The second biggest complaint is the vinyl simulation of this turntable. The idea is to present a turntable that sounds similar to the groundbreaking SL-1200 model, but it's obvious to anyone listening it's not authentic. It's a very good imitation, but it's still just an imitation. Authentic vinyl honestly can't be beat.

The most troublesome issue with Technics' SL-DZ1200 turntable is the loss in sound quality courtesy of MP3 files. Even if you're careful to rip all your MP3s as high bit rate recordings, the loss is still noticeable at high volumes; it's never going to match the vibrance of vinyl.

As difficult as it may be to weigh the pros and cons at this point, there is one massive factor determining whether you buy this turntable or not, and that's its mammoth price. Technics prices this monster at $1,199.95, which is an awful lot of money to spend on a model that doesn't even sound as good as turntables thirty years older.

My Conclusion: SL-DZ1200 A Mixed Bag

The SL-DZ1200 has a lot of features to like and a lot of problems that will take away from your experience as well. You can fool around with the crowd for thirty seconds to allow your CD to finally spin, you can scratch until you're blue in the face and store as many songs as you want on an incredibly portable SD card, but at the end of the day vinyl sounds like vinyl, and this isn't vinyl.

Even so, no other turntable on the market is as close to an all-in-one experience as the SL-DZ1200. Are the problems worth it? It's up to you to decide. - 31486

Basic Moves In Ballet You Have To Learn

By Sarah Wilkiamson

There is something magical about the ballet. As ballet dancers move around the stage a fantasy world unfolds. That world is filled with grace, romance, and beauty. If you have ever wanted to be part of that world it may not be as far away from you as you might have first thought.

To really make your fore into the world of ballet you will want to begin with some of the basic moves that ballet dancers have mastered. One of the best ways to really start to do this is with the use of a a ballet barre. There are many different types of ballet barres that you can get, but if you do not have the finances or the room for a ballet bar in your home a high backed chair can actually be just as effective.

Barre bars main purpose is to assist the dancer as a tool to balance themselves while going through routine positions.

The eleve is a simple move and also the first one you should work on. This move is just when a ballet dancer raises their body up on the balls of the feet, and it will also do a lot to greatly strengthen important body parts like the feet, ankles and calves. You will need to work on doing an eleve with all five basic ballet positions and once you are capable of that you can start working on a releve in those positions too. The releve is different, because it is when a dancer raises themselves onto the ball of a foot while in a deep plie position.

The plie is one move that has to be mastered in any case. A plie is nothing other than a move in which you bend your knees while in one of the many ballet positions. How deep the knees are bent will be the determining factor on whether you are doing just a basic plie or the grande plie. Both of these are important and need to be mastered in that respective order.

Another basic move in ballet you need to know and which can be mastered using a barre is the tendu. When working on this move you just have to stand firmly on one leg and stretch out the other one. It is important to keep in mind that when working on a tendu that the stretched out foot is in a strong point at the end of the move and before you bring it back to the starting position. This move is great for increasing flexibility overall and strengthening turnout.

After working enough to be comfortable doing a tendu you can then start working on the rond de jambre. This move is not very different from the tendu, but you have to move your free leg on the floor in a semi-circle. Once again this move can be carried out during any of the five ballet positions and it is also among the best exercises you can do if you want to improve turnout. The circular motion is always done from front to back, but once you can easily do that you can start working on the jambe en dedans which is when you move from the back to the front.

Ballet is a complicated form of dance, but it is rooted in the basics. As you work your way through these basic ballet steps you will be building a foundation for yourself that you can expand on as a dancer in the future. - 31486

How To Choose The Right Dance Class

By Peggy Ryersen

Learning how to dance is a lot of fun and a great hobby, but only if you choose the right dance class to attend or otherwise you won't be getting the most out of your lessons. When choosing a dance class there is much you have to take into consideration. Not only is the dance style important, but also the quality of instruction which has to be high if you want to really learn and master a particular type of dance.

The first step is to find dance instruction available in your area for your chosen style of dance to learn. If you have not yet decided on a particular style, then you will also have to do some research on the various options. It is even possible to go and sit in on a few classes so that you get to see the style of both dance and instruction. This can be helpful when choosing which class to go to.

You can't look into different classes without considering how long the class lasts. If a dance class is too short then it will be impossible for you to learn the dance techniques and improve them. Lessons are ideally an hour long and depending upon what style of dance you choose, the class should last several weeks or even up to several months. Always choose a class that can be fit into your schedule so that you won't miss any.

The class skill level is something you have to keep in mind and generally you will have to choose from beginner classes up to advanced level classes. Always choose the appropriate level and if you have never done a type of dance before, then go with the beginner class so that you can learn all the fundamental techniques. Afterwards you can always move on to more advanced courses.

You shouldn't forget to learn about the instructor, either. You should look for an instructor who is skilled and is a good teacher. Not all people who are good dancers can also teach others well and that is why it is important to observe a class before signing up. By sitting in on a class you have the opportunity to see the instructor's teaching style and decide if you like it or not.

After choosing an instructor and narrowing down your class options, you have to find out just how many others are going to be in your class. Small classes are the best, because the instructor will have more chance to spend individual time with you. As a general rule, the classes with the fewest students are the best.

Once you actually begin your classes, make sure that you do not miss any. You should attend every class or you could miss important instruction. Dance classes usually use a building style of teaching where each class builds upon the previous. If you miss a class you will miss out and have to catch up, which could put you behind everyone else and cause you trouble in progressing throughout the remainder of your lessons.

Finally, make sure that you have fun with your dance classes. Take all the helpful advice and constructive criticism that your instructor gives to you. Anything an instructor points out is an effort to make you a better dancer. Practice outside of class and take the necessary steps to master your chosen dance style. - 31486

How To Choose The Right Dance Class

By Peggy Ryersen

Going to dance lessons is a lot of fun and also makes a great hobby. However, you have to be careful and choose the right class to go to in order to get the most out of the dance instruction. On top of that you also have other considerations to keep in mind when choosing the right dance class, including style of dance and high quality of the instruction. Without a good instructor you will never be able to really master a chosen dance style.

Your first consideration should be finding dance instruction in your area for the style of dance that you want to learn. If you do not already know what style of dance you want to learn you should research the different options. You might even consider sitting in on some classes. Not only will this help you to see the style of dance, but it will also help you to see the style of instruction, which can be helpful when choosing a class.

After looking into classes you also need to take into consideration the length of a class. Classes that are too short will not give you sufficient time to learn techniques and perfect your dance. The ideal class length is one hour and depending upon style of dance being learned, the class can go on for several weeks or even months. It is important to be able to commit to a class and therefore, you should choose one that fits into your schedule.

The level of the class is also a factor to be kept in mind. Classes are most often setup for certain skill levels, ranging from beginner to advanced and you have to make sure that the class you choose is suitable to your personal skill level. If you have no experience with a dance style, then you have to choose a beginner's class that will put focus on the basic techniques. After that you can always progress and advance through the various levels until you have mastered the dancing style you chose.

Once you sign up and begin dance class, then it is important not to miss any. Every class needs to be attended or you risk missing out on something important. Especially in dancing you will find that the classes are based on a building style of instruction and each class will build upon what was learned in the previous class. If you miss even one class then you will have to catch up and that means you can easily fall behind. Once that has happened, you could potentially have trouble progressing during the rest of the course.

Lastly, you have to enjoy your dance lessons and accept all the helpful advice and constructive critique that an instructor gives you. If your instructor does have something to point out, then it is only to make you better at your dance. Even outside of class it is important to practice the techniques learned if you want to master the style of dance you chose to learn. - 31486

By Peggy Ryersen

A great form of exercise is dancing and at the same time it is also a great hobby to have. You also need to think about your physical capabilities. Some dance styles require great flexibility. Other styles require good balance and coordination. You should try to choose a style of dance that will work with your natural abilities, so that you have less of a learning curve and can get started learning actual dance technique.

You might like hip hop music or want to have the lean appearance of a ballet dancer, for example. Weigh the pros and cons of each style of dance and choose one you like that fulfills your goals, as well as appeals to you.

Sometimes if you are undecided which to choose, some classes will let you come as a guest to try out different styles so you can narrow down your choices and find the one you like. Many times trying one out is all it takes to decide.

Once you choose the style of dance that you want to learn you need to choose dance instructor. You will usually either have the option of learning in a class or getting private instruction.
